I figured that you might want some more personal information on this topic. While I was repacking and doing an inventory on everything that I have packed. I decided I would compile a guide that you might find interesting based of what I determined was important to have. Feel free to add or take from this list as you adapt it to your personal needs. One thing to keep in mind the recommended weight on a backpack for hiking is 1/3 of your weight.
Now to the items I have in my bag, which weighs 55 lbs when water is full. I chose a large variety of items and comfort items. This causes a lot of planning when it comes to trying to fit everything into my bug out bag, it’s like Tetris. It is advisable to repack you bag every six months so you are always familiar with its contents and can make adjustments.
Think of a bug-out-bag as a mobile 72 hour kit. If you are thinking of traveling long distances on foot then it is worth looking into geo-caching supplies along likely avenues of travel. Enjoy and improvise; because I’ve already made changes since I first sent this to my brother.

Extended Bug Out Bag
This can be a bag, a plastic tote, or even multiple of each. The purpose of this is to keep items that won’t fit in your B.O.B that you still might want with you. So in the event that you are able to drive you already have things packed and ready to be loaded. This can include matching items from your B.O.B just in larger quantity. By having things packed you won’t have to waste time running around your house trying to think of things that you might want with you. Even if this involves items like personal documents of pictures you can still substitute packing them by already having a list of things you will grab from throughout your house.
