I the request of my brother-in-law I watched one of the most fascinating documentaries I’ve seen in some time. Happy People (available on Netflix and other movie programs) is a documentary filmed in the Siberian Taiga in 2010 in the village of B Bakhtia (62.464463°N 89.002168°E) along the Yenisei River.
Over a year the movie makers follow the lives of the villagers, in particular focusing on the hunters and fur trappers. The trappers spend months at a time in the frigid Siberian forests using rudimentary traps and old fashioned techniques and tools to survive and trap. Watch the survival techniques and preparations made for a winter with only a faithful dog as a companion.
