Choosing a Back Pack

Choosing a Back Pack

The truth is there is no one solution for every person; and bags should suit the purpose as well as the back packer. If you are going on a day trip then you probably don’t have to be overly concerned; but if you are bugging out, or just going back packing, here are some things […]

A Little More Cleverness

FYI, that’s a magnet he’s using above if you can’t tell.   And yes I know that shouldn’t be used in conjunction with a thumb drive.

Rules for Surviving a Horror Movie

Rules for Surviving a Horror Movie

These made me laugh pretty hard.  Thanks http://freaky_freya.tripod.com/horror_movie_rules.html, for a good read. Jon When it appears that you have killed the monster, never check to see if it’s really dead. If you find that your house was built upon or near a cemetery, was once a church that was used for black masses, had previous […]

Muscle Memory

Muscle Memory

What is muscle memory? Muscle memory has been used to describe the observation that various muscle-related tasks seem to be easier to perform after previous practice, even if the task has not been performed for a while. It is as if the muscles “remember”. There I am in the desert, a wounded man is screaming […]

Be Prepared: Before, During and After an Earthquake

Be Prepared: Before, During and After an Earthquake

I was watching San Andreas the other day, its okay for a disaster film though highly predictable, and it reminded me of all the earth quake drills I used to have as an elementary school kid. You remember those? Get under your desks, cover your head with your hands, and then evacuate the building and […]

Notes on Knives

Notes on Knives

While I don’t have quite the same affection for knives that I do for axes; though it’s close; I have a pretty good collection that ranges from authentic neolithic flint knives to KA-BARs, bayonets, and combat folders.  So I thought I’d share some information and general examples.  If you love knives you may know most […]

Apocalyptic Themes

Apocalyptic Themes

I was watching Doomsday Preppers a while back and found it interesting how many different apocalyptic themes people prepare for. I think I’ve always been motivated by a breakdown of the current system and the resulting complete anarchy; self-preservation, self-support, and self-sufficiency. Surprisingly some government organizations actually encourage trends like preparing for the zombie apocalypse; […]

Prepper Baby Steps

Prepper Baby Steps

The main goal of my prepper baby steps is ending with two years of self-sufficiency in an emergency crisis, and development of a fun hobby. Many people still consider this hobby as silly and nonsensical, or they simply say they would rather die than suffer through a post event world.  To that I say, never […]

Lessons from NTC

Lessons from NTC

Every time you go camping or hiking log it away with your lessons learned. Make a list of what you wish you had had, or had prepared, and the things you could have lived without. I just had a great experience running through the Fort Irwin NTC (National Training Center). Sure the before and after […]

Jonathan Prusse

I’m a guy who cares about his family. I want to make sure that those I love have the tools necessary to survive. In my own life I’ve seen the benefits which food storage and self-sufficiency have provided for my own immediate family during times of financial strain. Most of my own experience comes down to farm life, foraging in the woods, scouting, military service and combat deployments; to name several of life’s major building blocks. Not only do I want to share, I want to learn; so give me your insight. And while I do my best to ensure all information is correct; let me know if any corrections need to be made.
