Shipping Containers for Bunkers?

Shipping Containers for Bunkers?

Short answer; no!  The full or partial burying of shipping containers or connexes has been very popular for the last decade among the prepping community. You can see it on you tube and programs such as doomsday preppers. The appeals stems from many things, easy availability, relatively low cost, a prefab structure, and an […]

Bible Thoughts

Bible Thoughts

Everybody approaches religion a little differently; but here is my outtake on being prepared, and a small collection of scriptures which you might find worth highlighting in your Bible. It is true that God takes care of his own, and that we should have faith in him and his protection, spiritual or physical; but in […]

Ham Radio Terms

I have a great interest in ham radios that has been a recent result of talking to friends and family; and I look forward to delving deeper into this communications world as soon as I can siphon the money out of my wife’s grasp. This can, but doesn’t have to be a huge hit on […]

Urban Camo

If you live in a city then woodland camo might not be your thing…you might be going for more of a Batman look as in Batman Begins. If you are prepping to bug in then some of these patterns may be for you; after all, going out at night might be the safer alternative. I don’t much […]

Google Maps (spy on yourself)

Have you ever looked at your home or some other familiar structure on Google maps from the satellite view? Have you ever used it to check out how concealed something is? The picture below is a container, similar to a shipping container, which I own and is chuck full of goodies. At the time it […]

Ammo Can Uses

Ammo Can Uses

Why do men love ammo cans? That’s a good question if you are not a man. It’s like asking why men love duct tape, para cord, or bullets. We just do. Looking back in our youth we recall the first time we bought one of those can’s at the army navy surplus store and struggled […]

Gabions

There you are looking to sand bag you home in preparation for the impending doom be it bullets or rain drops when surprise, surprise…you don’t have a pallet of empty sandbags. You approach your wife and she gives you “the look” as you bring up pillow cases as an alternative… wives just don’t look at […]

Pigweed (Amaranth)

And yet again my mind has been officially blown by another weed I had never known was edible. As I learn more and more about what food grows wild in my backyard I find myself seeing food sources all around us when I’m walking or driving around town. I’m astounded that this knowledge has been […]

Going Home

Going Home

Going Home, by A. American, is one of the best books I’ve read in a long time; and possibly the best fictional survival book I’ve read thus far. And if you like it pick up Surviving Home as a follow on. The story is one of a man on a business trip when the SHTF […]

Firearms and Katrina

Firearms and Katrina

For what it’s worth, there are some interesting articles on a topic that has bothered me for some time. Being a member of the military I was bothered by the notion of widespread gun confiscation in the wake of an emergency; especially if the military had been involved; in this I’m talking about Katrina. I’ve […]

Jonathan Prusse

I’m a guy who cares about his family. I want to make sure that those I love have the tools necessary to survive. In my own life I’ve seen the benefits which food storage and self-sufficiency have provided for my own immediate family during times of financial strain. Most of my own experience comes down to farm life, foraging in the woods, scouting, military service and combat deployments; to name several of life’s major building blocks. Not only do I want to share, I want to learn; so give me your insight. And while I do my best to ensure all information is correct; let me know if any corrections need to be made.
