Jerky (and pemmican)

I don’t know if this was real or just some rumor that circulated; but, in my youth I recall hearing a story about an unspecified type of jerky that was found in sealed containers at an American Indian archeological site in the desert of the four corners region.  In other words, a perfect environment for […]

The above photo is not affiliated with the attachment. I came across this while surfing the internet and felt it was worth sharing; at least with the few of you that read Danish. Jon JAEGER

Firearm Safety

Firearm Safety

The people that frighten me the most when it comes to firearm usage, are those that have not received proper instruction in the basic safety concepts of firearms operation and storage.  Don’t make your pistol in the closet a secret special item that your child can’t wait to get their hands on as soon as […]

Don’t Touch It

Don’t Touch It

So; for Christmas we drove down to the California LA area to visit my wife’s family.  While there we went on several walks into the hills after meals, especially when the kids needed to get out of the house.  They told me about the abundance of poison oak in the area and how one of […]

Aspen as Aspirin?

Aspen as Aspirin?

My youngest sister tells me that once while camping or playing in the woods with the other kids she had a headache, and I apparently made her chew on aspen leaves as a remedy.  I don’t remember this but it sounds like me; and it sounds even more like something I would have heard from […]

Little House Series

Little House Series

Despite my enjoyment of sophisticated literature, the Little House series has always been one of my favorites.  The author, Laura Elizabeth Ingalls Wilder (February 7, 1867 – February 10, 1957) encouraged by her daughter Rose, wrote a series of books depicting life in the mid to late 1800s.  Her family was one which homesteaded untouched […]

Great Idea

All you need to do now is bury a handful of these joined together and you’re rockin.  I’ve read about shelters made out of large diameter drainage pipes similar to these.  what some do is put a false floor down and have there storage below their feet. Jon

Camo Face Paint

Here are a few notes if you are new to the world of camo face paint pulled from personal experience, the Army Study Guide, and the FM 21-76: US ARMY SURVIVAL MANUAL. Here is the skinny taught to me at basic; the human face, like the human form, has distinct shapes that are recognizable and […]

Free Food and Medicine

I gotta thank my wife’s cousin, Natalie, for this review, and letting me re-post the article.  check out her blog at http://simplicityinallthings.blogspot.com/ Jon You might remember this book from this post here. I got it for my birthday. I am so excited to develop my new found hobby of eating wild plants! There is a guy up […]

Apocalypse Soundtrack

Apocalypse Soundtrack

Periodically I listen to a song and can’t help but think I need to add it to my apocalypse road mix.  What song(s) would carry you through the end via a badass montage? This is my list so far and at the top of the list, just because I live for zombies, has to be […]

Jonathan Prusse

I’m a guy who cares about his family. I want to make sure that those I love have the tools necessary to survive. In my own life I’ve seen the benefits which food storage and self-sufficiency have provided for my own immediate family during times of financial strain. Most of my own experience comes down to farm life, foraging in the woods, scouting, military service and combat deployments; to name several of life’s major building blocks. Not only do I want to share, I want to learn; so give me your insight. And while I do my best to ensure all information is correct; let me know if any corrections need to be made.
