BOB Practical Exercise

BOB Practical Exercise

There is no better way to test your bug out bag than through practical camping and training.  Working with the scouts has given me many opportunities to do just that.  For you it might be hunting, or outdoors opportunities with the family.  On each camping trip I make notes on paper so I can make […]

Latest Rifle Project

Latest Rifle Project

I love camo, and since all the rest of my bug out gear is camouflaged in one way or another I figured I’d add this latest project.  When I bought the rifle and attachments the goal was always to do something similar to the final project. In one of my first posts I camouflaged a […]

Apocalyptic Disappointments

Apocalyptic Disappointments

I remember the first time I was disappointed in an apocalypse prediction.  I was sold on all the computers around the world collapsing during the W2K.  It seemed like such a good rounded number for Christ to come back and so forth.  But nothing, nada, zilch. I’ve been quite partial to the Strauss–Howe generational theory; […]

Foods for Long Term Storage

Foods for Long Term Storage

Other than cans of freeze dried stuff that will last decades I was curious what other food items had a ridiculously long shelf life.  For example, a few buckets of white rice could go a long way for a relatively cheap price. Below are some of foods I’ve identified as suitable for long term storage […]

Log Cabin Transformation

I know I just shared something similar; but I love reading, and found another great article that I had to share from mentalflare.com (http://mentalflare.com/restored-log-cabin/?as=6046990798583&pg=1). Jon   This Man Bought An Old Log Cabin For $100, And What He Did With It Made Everyone Jealous. Sixty five-year-old self-described “hillbilly” Richard Aiken is many things. He’s a husband, […]

Learning to Live a Self-Sufficient Life

Sorry it’s been a while since I’ve shared anything; we had another child and work has been demanding.  So it’s with great pleasure that I share this article from Outdoor Life (http://outdoorlifes.com/02315efe7cbe62) in its entirety.  I thoroughly enjoyed reading this article because this family is playing out many of the things I hope to achieve […]

Medicinal Herbs

Medicinal Herbs

The benefits of natural herbs in our daily diet is a topic of increased study.  While I originally dismissed many healing herbs as being blown beyond their practical value, I’ve been intrigued by the results of many people; noting that it cannot be entirely a result of the placebo effect.  I began to look more […]

Prehistoric Experiences and Workshops

http://www.will-lord.co.uk/ I came across Will Lord on youtube, and with my own collection of Neolithic tools from Denmark’s prehistory, I was immediately intrigued and then highly impressed with his knowledge and skill.  His site is well set up and full of information.  As well as his site, youtube has several outstanding videos of Lord making […]

The Real Robinson Crusoe

The Real Robinson Crusoe

I loved Daniel Defoe’s Robinson Crusoe growing up.  While old fashioned it inspires the imagination and made me wonder how I would react in a similar circumstance.  I was surprised some years ago when I discovered that Defoe had loosely based his story on the survival experiences of a real person, Alexander Selkirk, a Scottish […]

Earth Bag Homes

Earth Bag Homes

Earth bag, or sand bag, homes is a trend I’ve been reading about more and more on the internet.  Outside of the military and flood control I honestly had no idea people legitimately built with these.  Reminds me a little of straw bale houses.  Do an image search on google for earthbag homes and you […]

Jonathan Prusse

I’m a guy who cares about his family. I want to make sure that those I love have the tools necessary to survive. In my own life I’ve seen the benefits which food storage and self-sufficiency have provided for my own immediate family during times of financial strain. Most of my own experience comes down to farm life, foraging in the woods, scouting, military service and combat deployments; to name several of life’s major building blocks. Not only do I want to share, I want to learn; so give me your insight. And while I do my best to ensure all information is correct; let me know if any corrections need to be made.
