Herb Tea

Herb Tea

There I was, sick in the tropics, no hospital within several hours of travel, and the only shops within walking distance are run out of the fronts of residencies; these little shops, or tindahans, often carry little more than snacks, soda, and some local produce.  A good Filipino friend of mine was kind enough to […]

The Dandelion

The Dandelion

A Brief History of Dandelions Believe it or not, this plant was not always thought of as a weed. It used to be referred to as a “common herb” and was used for both medicinal properties, a welcome food supplement in the spring, and among the wealthy in later years it was regarded as a […]

Healthy Teeth

Healthy Teeth

Never brush your teeth straight after a meal as it can damage your teeth, especially if you’ve had fruit, fizzy drinks, wine, or any other food that contains acid. This is because tooth enamel is softened by the acid and can be worn away by brushing.  instead, wait an hour after a meal before brushing […]

Shock

Shock

In military training we are taught that one of the leading causes of death on the battlefield is shock; not shock because their battle buddy jumps out and yells “boo!” at a stressful moment, but because of traumatic injury. When I first started learning about shock I thought it was a side effect of a […]

SALUTE

SALUTE

There you are on an LP/OP (listening post/observation post), or just scouting around in your AO (area of operation); you have some kind of radio devise and you see baddies, how do you call it up? I’d like to recommend the classic SALUTE report: size, activity, location, unit/uniform, time, equipment.  Follow the power point and […]

Danish Resistance

Danish Resistance

I have a unique cultural tie to Denmark, not only because I was born there, but because of the great accomplishments of many of my predecessors.  I want to share some reasons of which Denmark found itself defenseless, and some stories passed down from my Oldefar (great grandfather).  The Danish underground had been very well […]

Fish Spear

Okay, so I’ve tried this.  I really haven’t had much success or luck with this, especially compared to a classic pole and line; but if you are desperate with no other resources available, or you’re bored, have some fun and give it a try.  This is a method for employing when the water is waist […]

Emergency Preparedness

Emergency Preparedness

If you are new to the topic of prepping then take a moment to look through the requirements of the Emergency Preparedness merit badge required by the Boy Scout of America.  As an Eagle Scout this was one of my favorite merit badges to earn; I especially enjoyed making a 72 kit in a 5 […]

“Drink Water!”

“Drink Water!”

Talking to people unfamiliar with medical preparedness have you ever heard this conversation? “I was feeling light headed because I didn’t drink enough water; I totally had heat stroke.” And you’re thinking to yourself; no, I think heatstroke would leave you on the ground unconscious and very near death.  Many people without proper knowledge […]

Crayfish, Crawfish, and Crawdads

Crayfish, Crawfish, and Crawdads

I watched an outdoor fishing and hunting show the other day and some amusing material caught my eye.  The show depicted snorkelers in wet suites baiting the bed of a small reservoir in Idaho and then catching them.  They would dive down as deep as reasonable and then come up with 2 or three at […]

Jonathan Prusse

I’m a guy who cares about his family. I want to make sure that those I love have the tools necessary to survive. In my own life I’ve seen the benefits which food storage and self-sufficiency have provided for my own immediate family during times of financial strain. Most of my own experience comes down to farm life, foraging in the woods, scouting, military service and combat deployments; to name several of life’s major building blocks. Not only do I want to share, I want to learn; so give me your insight. And while I do my best to ensure all information is correct; let me know if any corrections need to be made.
